Caution: Rant Below

Right O! kiddies - welcome back. I've got a few minutes before bed and so I'm going to do some ranting. (Consider this your warning if you seek low intentisty blog reading, for the below entry is anything but that.)

Center point: Difference between "hard" & "difficult" and why it matters. . .

Hard can be defined as having a bunch of stuff to do, but knowing what has to be done. Its clear. If you're building a house per se- that can be hard. It's a lot of co-ordination, a lot of planning, tracking, whatever, but it's defined. How one goes about building a house is defined and people just come in and bang out thier tasks. Fine.

Difficult can be defined as having a problem to solve or deliver on but the answers are unclear. Judgement calls have to be made about HOW and WHAT should/must be done .

Here's a little insight about hard and difficult: Human beings, (most) don't deal well with difficult - especially when its work or proffessional related. I don't know why, but most just don't. Not that they can't, for it is not a capability issue it is a preference issue.

My point is this: As one who carries responsibilities for delivirables in my professional life (both photog and engineering) I will take all day, everyday, those who are willing to do difficult work. I say this becuase those who are capable and willing to engage in difficult don't need to be told what to do. They need guidance, but the don't need clear definition, they need a rough idea of how to go about doing it, and then they fill in the blanks based on judgment.

Here is my suggestion across the board to everyone on this planet. Seek difficult, relish in difficult, become good at difficult- both you and the world will be better for it.
I might just have to video blog this topic so I can convey my emotions about it. Not tonight though. Peace-

Stephen
